Journey Update: September 2024

Just before sitting down to write this update, I reviewed the weather forecast for this week here in Alabama. We have the hope of a few days with the highs in the 70s and some significant rain. I am so ready for Autumn weather. It has been a scorching summer.

Our grandkids are back in school since the first part of August. This school year our oldest is a senior in high school and our youngest is in the first grade. Time flies!

Our school in Haiti began September 9th. Thanks for all your help in helping our students begin with uniforms. The situation in Haiti is still very difficult. The folks there are very concerned with uncertainty and insecurity. The gangs rule about eighty percent of the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

Kenya has deployed about 400 troops to Haiti as part of a MSS mission (multinational security support). Reports indicate an increase to 2,500 from various nations. From what I have heard, they have done little to bring any security. As usual, world governments throw millions of dollars to ease their conscience without easing the problem.

I cannot describe how frustrated I am with this situation. We continue to pray daily for God to protect and help our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We are doing what we can to help the ministry continue in this difficult situation. Our staff are heroic in their efforts to bring a sense of normalcy to the students, church, and community. The situational comparison in Haiti is as if they went from paradise to hell.

On the other side of the world where we have ministry partners, rains and flooding have caused many problems. The light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ continues to shine the brightest in some of the worst scenarios.

We have several trips in 2025 we are working toward and praying about. The travel situation to certain countries is more difficult and more expensive than in previous years. Worldwide inflation, global conflicts, and increased hatred for certain groups fan the flames of global insecurity and unrest. The world is less safe, but we have traveled to difficult places before. We want to be faithful to the Lord’s calling and direction.

In journeys often,
In perils of waters, in perils of robbers,
In perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles,
In perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness,
In perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
In weariness and toil,
In sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst,
In fastings often,
In cold and nakedness—
Besides the other things, what comes upon me daily:
My deep concern for all the churches.

2 Cor. 11:26-28 NKJV
