Journey Update: April 2023

When John the Baptist was in prison, he sent two of his disciples to Jesus to ask a question, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” (Matt. 11:3 NKJV). It seems a strange question coming from the prophet who saw the Spirit descending like a dove on Jesus and hearing the voice of the Father declaring from Heaven, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt. 3:17 NKJV).

We all have had moments of strength and of weakness. Jesus did not seem to be too concerned by his kindred’s question. I was just intrigued by the question. How many people in our secularized culture has the same question. Jesus told the two disciples of John to go back and tell him of the miracles they had witnessed such as, “The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them” (Matt. 11:5 NKJV).

So, if someone came to us with an honest question such as, “Is Jesus Christ the true Messiah, the Son of God?” What would be our response? Would they be convinced by what they saw in our churches, in our families, and in our lives? Something to think about!!

Well, the month of March did not turn out as we expected. “A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9 NKJV). Bro. Butch Suddath and I were packed and ready to go on our mission trip, leaving on March 14th. The week before, I had a scheduled heart stress test that I expected to be routine and nothing. The cardiologist called me with the results of an abnormal test result; I could possibly have a blockage and needed a heart catheterization. We had to cancel the trip.

On March 16th instead of landing in a foreign airport, I was in a heart cath lab. I had the heart cath. Good news, my heart arteries had no blockages and my mild plaque level was the same as a year ago. We were disappointed in missing the trip but so many people have told me, “God had some reason for you not going on this trip.” We just must trust God even in the unknown.
